yes, things are different here...

1. In Cambodia the bottom floor in never floor 1, it's ground floor then floor 1, 2,3 etc. So in our apartment we are number 203, but we are actually on the third floor. It's like this in all buildings here.
2. Because western influence has come from so many different countries (Australia, America, all over Europe, etc. some Cambodians have English accents, some have Australian accents, some have American accents it's funny. Just depends on who they learned English from! They also use different words for things like the bathroom is called the toilet. Elevators are called lifts, etc. It's interesting seeing the different influences that have affected everything.
3. Nobody uses chopsticks here, just spoons.
4. All 'bathrooms' just have a shower head, have yet to find an actual 'shower' or 'tub'
5. Babies do not wear diapers here, they just seem to wash a LOT of clothes :)
6. Foreigners can purchase homes in Cambodia, but they cannot own the ground floor! Only floors one and up!
7. Lightning killed 140 people in cambodia in 2009, more than any other country
8. In my level 8 class at the school we were discussing crime and when I asked my students if drinking and driving was illegal they were shocked and said "Of course it is!!!" When I asked what the punishment was they said 5,000 riel ($1.25). I said no jail time? They said, "'No!"
9. Now that the monsoon rains are here, there is now a lake outside of our apartment every afternoon. (it replaces the roads) Literally that cars and motos are about halfway covered with water. It is quite a site :)

more to come...
