Keep smiling, Keep shining

Mar and I both attempt to stay attentive and aware of current global events, specifically those surrounding trafficking, poverty and health.  Lately we have both been wishing that we could all focus a little more on the good things.
Sometimes it can become so overwhelming when it seems any sort of positive news is being constantly surpassed by more ‘bad’ news.  There is such a relief at the news of a conviction (of a trafficker) or a sense of encouragement when another state passes a (long overdue) anti-trafficking law.   But then you are reminded of the let-downs, the  “well when you take one out, two more will immediately fill her place,” the endless facts  and statistics which though often used to shock people and get them on your ‘side’ can also steal a person’s sense of optimism and hope.

We must hold onto hope.
We must believe that change IS possible.
We must never give up.
We must stand our ground.
We must become as clever and astute as ‘they’ are.
We must learn their ways and adapt them as needed.
We must learn from their successes and not repeat their failures.

***We must CONTINUE to love our enemies, even while seeking justice for the hurting.

We must never forget that Paul was previously “Saul of Tarsus.”  His life is our evidence that ANY man (no matter how vile you consider him to be) can be transformed from notorious persecutor of believers to prominent leader and advocate for the poor.
There is always hope for redemption.  Nothing and Nobody can stop His everlasting love from breaking through the darkness.  It does not matter what you or I see.  He can still find a remnant of beauty and a chance for redemption.
His grace is not LIMITED.
His love is not CONDITIONAL.
His power cannot be CONFINED.

So if your grace is limited and your love conditional, ask Him for an extra helping.  We cannot claim to do things in His name and carry our personal baggage at the same time.  Our words, our hearts, and our actions must be in alignment with each other and with Him.   If we set out to ‘rescue’ the ones we define as ‘victims’ and forget to see everyone with His eyes of grace, we will eventually hurt more than just ourselves.

I guess I am just trying to convey the power of love and of hope.   We have to smile, we have to stay strong, we must inspire and encourage one another.  This is a war, but we are on the side that will prevail.  We will never turn our backs, we will stand together.  We will seek freedom for all with the One who set us free.

Share the GOOD news.
Spread the TRUTH.

Yes, numbers are great for shocking us all, picking us up out of the bubble of our little life and throwing us into ‘reality’ but it is love that inspires us to action.

Without darkness, how would we know light?
Without pain, how would we seek or understand joy?
Without doubt or fear, how could we ever comprehend faith?
Without despair, how would we learn to crave hope?

Hand in Hand

"I want to walk beside you
through life
And you!
Want to put a ring on my nose
To pull me along.
Intoxicated by love,
I want to love you
And you!
Want to be god
Making and breaking me.
I want to dance forever in
the courtyard of your heart.
And you!
Singing songs of my helplessness
On the tambourine of my needs,
Want me to dance like a puppet.
I want to become a perfume
And permeate your body
But you!
Want to hide me in your pocket.
I want to cry:
And you!
Want to make me laugh as
you flick your fingers."

What do you see today? And how will you respond?

What I see today:

Greed
Beauty
Need
Pain
Hope
Desire
Hurt
Love
Fear
Individuality
Shame
Resentment
Faith
Longing
Desperation
Kindness
Hopelessness
Potential

I walk around considering:
What can I see in her face?
What can I see in his eyes?

I have no words.  No response.  No reaction.

Just a small sense of each of the emotions I saw, especially pain, and then such intense feelings of overwhelming love.   There is no need here for a love of pity or sympathy.  A love from someone of ‘more’ to someone of ‘less.’
The only love needed here is an unconditional, inspiring, empowering, creative, powerful, immediate and everlasting unstoppable love.
Love that does not require words alone but that speaks the truth of:
"you are enough"
"you are strong"
"you are intelligent"
"you are more than capable"
"you are beautiful"

My insides are in knots and I have no idea what to do or where to go from here.

This place is madness.
Everything is thrown in your face.  You cannot hide from reality here.  You cannot live in a bubble.  This world is full of hurt and hurting and who are we if we see that and choose to ignore it.

Extremely tiny glimpse of the happenings:
Menus with pictures of various acts and their prices, these are continually shoved in your face.
Streets and streets and streets FULL of people from every country in the world – tourists and customers.
People for sale from numerous countries – all of Asia, all of Eastern Europe, various African countries, etc.
Girls, girls, girls everywhere.
Boys, boys, boys everywhere.

So beautiful and so perfect.
We cannot continue to destroy these souls.

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
These are the things that matter:  people crying out for freedom and then being victimized again and again and again.  Not only by the ones we may call "perpetrators" but by those whose ignorance results in continued acceptance and therefore continued consumption.  Those who claim to know and understand these things they know absolutely nothing about.   Those who claim “oh well he had a choice,”  or “they aren’t chained up so they can walk away if they want to.”

“At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done.
We will be judged by "I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was naked and you clothed me. I was homeless, and you took me in.”
Mother Teresa

1 City in 1 Country
60,000 people for sale.
Every night.
Think about that or see it for yourself.  You will be changed.
This is just a reminder.
Life is more than 9-5, more than raising your beautiful children, more than you and more than me.

The light HAS to break through the darkness.  Or why are we even here?

So I have been thinking about vacations and had some ideas...

I found the definition of vacation to be very interesting.
Merriam Websters first definition: : a respite or a time of respite (short interval of rest of relief) from something.
What if we used our short intervals of rest to provide a moment of rest for someone else.  Or even just a moment of not worrying what they will eat today.  Or even just a moment of warmth, whether that be physical or deep in their souls.  Or even a newfound hope.

Enough with Hawaii and Mexico.  We've all been there and done that, right?!
Why not visit a place that will take your breath away with both beauty and pain, joy and suffering?
Why not meet some people that will change you forever with smiles and kindness and love?
Why not go somewhere a little further away that gives you a glimpse into what 'home' could actually be?
Why not go somewhere that has not only sunshine and beaches but also $.50 cent beer, 'happy' pizza, and fried crickets?

maybe go somewhere that you can lend a hand or an ear
somewhere that changes you from who you are into that person you are wanting to be
that person that feels incredibly alive
that person that knows they have a purpose

Why not?
